About Government of Iceland

The Icelandic government is leveraging the power of GPT-4, the latest language model developed by OpenAI, to safeguard their language. GPT-4 exhibits remarkable advancements in responding accurately in Icelandic, a progress attributed to a collaborative effort that originated from an Icelandic delegation’s visit to OpenAI’s headquarters. Led by Iceland’s President and government ministers, the delegation engaged with OpenAI’s founder, Sam Altman. Notably, GPT-4 surpasses its predecessor, GPT-3.5, in terms of image summarization, text summarization, and the ability to pass bar exams and standardized tests. However, GPT-4 occasionally tends to generate incorrect responses. To address this, Vilhjálmur Þorsteinsson, the CEO of Miðeind, a Reykjavík-based software company specializing in language technology, organized a team of 40 volunteers to train GPT-4 on precise Icelandic grammar and cultural knowledge.

Feature

  1. Enhanced Language Comprehension: GPT-4 demonstrates significant improvements in comprehending and responding accurately in Icelandic, making it a valuable tool for preserving the Icelandic language.
  2. Expanded Capabilities: GPT-4 surpasses its predecessor, GPT-3.5, by incorporating new functionalities such as image summarization, text summarization, and even the ability to pass bar exams and standardized tests.
  3. Collaborative Training: To further enhance GPT-4’s performance in Icelandic, a team of 40 volunteers, led by the CEO of Miðeind, undertakes the task of training the language model on precise Icelandic grammar and cultural knowledge, ensuring more accurate and culturally sensitive responses.
